Ordnance Survey – Great Britain's national mapping agency

Benefits and facilities

We understand that everyone is different and that people come to work with Ordnance Survey for many different reasons. Which is why we've taken the time and attention to put together a comprehensive benefits package. And rather than a one size-fits-all approach to working patterns, we much prefer taking a personal, made-to-measure one. After all, we all have commitments outside of work and work life balance should be a given, not an unachievable option.

Of course, it's not just our benefits and working practices that have been designed with people in mind; our modern soon-to-be-built head office has too.

In addition to the salary quoted in each of our job adverts, our reward package includes:

Pension
Because we all want to feel financially secure about the future, you will be eligible to join the generous Civil Service Pension Scheme.
Hours
We don't pay lip service to work-life balance, we help you to achieve it. Whether you're joining us full- or part-time, through flexible working patterns we enable you to balance what is required from you at work with the life you live outside of work.

Holidays
Taking a break from work every now and then is important. On joining us you will be entitled to 25 days' holiday a year (pro-rated if you're working part-time); you'll also receive 11 public and privilege holidays.

Restaurant and shop
Our Southampton head office is well served by a subsidised restaurant and shop, offering a varied selection of food, drinks, newspapers and magazines.

Discounts and benefits
As well as childcare and free eye-care vouchers, Ordnance Survey can offer you discounts on insurance, financial assistance and preferential rates on health care schemes. There's also an in-house map shop at our Southampton head office offering generous staff discounts.

Social
We're a sociable bunch here at Ordnance Survey. Our various sports and social clubs are a great way to meet colleagues and get active! You can also become a member of the Civil Service Sports & Social Club, which offers a wealth of discounts and offers.

Travel
We offer bike-to-work incentives with secure bike sheds, showers, changing facilities and lockers. If you travel by bus, you can get a 10% discount on all tickets for First Group and Solent Blue Line; and not wanting to leave out car drivers, we have some 105 different car-sharing groups in place.
Those of us who travel frequently as part of our jobs can choose a car from a range of makes and models available under our business-user scheme; you can, of course, also use these cars for personal journeys.

Family-friendly
We appreciate that you have family and other commitments besides work and we have the following policies to support this commitment:
an on-site nursery with 45 places for children between 3 months and school age, staffed by fully-qualified assistants;
on-site holiday play scheme for children during school holidays;
flexi-time arrangements to allow staff to work around their family commitments;
part-time working and job share arrangements available in many work areas;
generous maternity provisions, paternity, parental, adoption and special leave.
