Ordnance Survey – Great Britain's national mapping agency

International

International image 1 Ordnance Survey's core business is in Great Britain, but we also play a full part on the international stage. Our history of close cooperation and involvement with many other countries around the world places us is in a unique position to contribute to all kinds of developments in geoinformation. The major organisations with whom we are involved are described under International Representation; but these include organisations such as International Map Trade Association, Open Geospatial Consortium and United Nations.

We have particularly strong links with our counterpart organisations in other countries. Ordnance Survey manages the National Mapping Organisations (NMOs) website called NMO network, which has been designed to help these organisation share information, discuss issues of mutual interest and catch up on all the latest news.  The NMO Network also provides links to the website of NMOs across the world -NMO website links

The major event which brings together NMOs from around the world is the Cambridge Conference which Ordnance Survey hosts. This Conference is held every 4 years and forms a valuable forum for debate for Heads of NMOs. The last Cambridge Conference was held in July 2007 and included nearly 300 delegates from 70 countries.

Following on from the success of the previous Cambridge Conference, a new event called CC:The Exchange took place in July 2005 and helped to further strengthen relationships between NMO senior representatives through round-tables and networking.  The next CC:The Exchange conference will be in July 2009.
