At the same time, we’re reminded of a Pathe news reel about Ordnance Survey from the 1950s. Our technology, hairstyles and dress sense may have changed, but we’re pleased to say the passion, dedication and attention to detail are still here.
Just bear in mind that although the clip states 1953, we’re reliably informed that the film is probably later since the first motorway in this country, the Preston by-pass, wasn’t opened until December 1958 and tellurometer didn’t come into use until 1957.
