Transport in local government

Local Transport Plans both by their nature, and by mandate, operate across a wide range of organisations. Many of these are governmental areas – whether agencies, other local authorities or central government. The fundamental requirement is a common base for planning. 

There are three key areas where geographical information  can be of substantial benefit to local authorities:

• as an integral part of Local Transport Plans (LTPs), which in turn lead to urban traffic management schemes that dynamically manage traffic flows
• to optimise the transport activities of the local authority’s own fleets and subcontractors
• in support of emergency services, including the police.

OS MasterMap® Integrated Transport Network™ Layer (ITN)

An accurate, detailed and up-to-date digital map of Great Britain’s road structure, it comprises:

• The Roads Network – all navigable roads across Great Britain, from motorways to alleyways and
• Road Routing Information (RRI) – route information such as width, weight and height restrictions that will assist your choice of route.

OS Mastermap Address Layer 2

Containing the precise coordinates of over 29 million residential and commercial properties in Great Britain, as well as structures without postal addresses, this provides the most accurate and up-to-date link between any address and its location.

Points of Interest

Classifying nearly 4 million geographic and commercial features across Great Britain, providing a location for each of them and including postal addresses where applicable, with this product you choose what you see on screen, such as all banks within the TW3 postcode district.

It undertakes client business planning, customer research and strategy development and embeds mapping data in its GIS products and services. These are designed to work with the OS MasterMap ITN RRI theme.  Examples include ACCESSION accessibility planning and analysis software and PT Insight public transport information system.
