Ordnance Survey – Great Britain's national mapping agency
Ordnance Survey has a Gaelic Names Policy which sets out how Ordnance Survey shows Gaelic names and bilingual English / Gaelic names on products.
The Policy was produced during 2000, in order to improve the consistency of our depiction of Gaelic names. The Policy resulted in the setting up of a Gaelic Names Liaison Committee, and the appointment of a Gaelic Names Liaison Officer.
The policy is published as a bilingual document, and can be viewed or downloaded in English or Gaelic language versions.

The Gaelic Names Liaison Committee (GNLC) advises and assists Ordnance Survey with the implementation of the Gaelic Names Policy. The members of the GNLC are drawn from a range of backgrounds and different institutions, including Comunn na Gàidhlig, Highland Council, Argyll and Bute Council, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Scottish Place-Name Society, University of Glasgow, Clì Gàidhlig and the Scottish Parliament.
Ordnance Survey aim to use recognised authoritative advice and established conventions to determine the correct depiction of names in Gaelic.
