Ordnance Survey – Great Britain's national mapping agency
Blooming marvellous! A search of Ordnance Survey’s free online gazetteer has revealed that Britain is blossoming with plenty of places for budding lovers to say it with flowers on Valentine’s Day.
The most popular flower is rose, boasting nearly 300 connected place names. There are Red Roses in Carmarthenshire, Rosedale in Hertfordshire, Roseland in Cornwall, Roseworth in Stockton-on-Tees, and numerous Rose Hills.

If Roses are easily red on the web site, then violets are blue in places such as Violet Hill in Nottinghamshire, Violet Grange in North Yorkshire, and Violetbank near Annan in Dumfries and Galloway.
So from Flowery Field in Tameside to Bloomsbury in Camden, Britain’s place names are a colourful collection of Garlands (Cumbria). The bouquet also includes Daisy (Isle of Scilly), Blossom (on the Orkney Isles) and a Great Lilly Farm(in Devon).
The place names search facility is a fun tool to discover a landscape of flowers. You can even download and print a free map of their favourite sweet-scented site.
Why not look for more romantic locations in our gazetteer of 250 000 place names?
We've also discovered hundreds of other romantic locations.
Lover - a small village just outside Salisbury in Wiltshire - attracts hundreds of die hard romantics each year, but this isn’t the only place where love appears on the British landscape.
There is Truelove in Devon, Heart’s Delight in Kent, Cupid’s Hill in Monmouthshire. There are 143 Love spots, 30 locations involving matters of the Heart and nearly 30 places touching the Soul.
"It just goes to show how romantic this country is," says Ordnance Survey’s
Deborah Cable. "Couples can kiss in Valentines Park in London, find Red Roses in Carmarthenshire, cuddle in the shadow of Love’s Hill in Peterborough, and say Isle of Ewe off the coast of Scotland."
