Ordnance Survey welcomes Mike Sommers as Non-Executive Director

Mike Sommers, a leading marketing professional with top line experience of the retail, finance and entertainment industries, has been appointed a Non-Executive Director of Ordnance Survey.

His appointment is designed to strengthen external perspective at strategy board level and help shape Ordnance Survey’s policies.

Mr Sommers, 54, has been Managing Director of MGM Cinemas (UK) Ltd, Marketing and Premises Director of TSB Bank plc, and Commercial Director of Woolworths plc.

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, he has held a host of successful consultancy roles, and is also a Non-Executive Director of the Department for Work and Pensions.

Welcoming the appointment, Ordnance Survey’s Director General and Chief Executive, Vanessa Lawrence, says: “Mike’s expertise and marketing advice will be of great benefit to us as we continue to deliver the power of geography to business, government and consumers.”

Mr Sommers joins fellow Non-Executive Directors Piers White, Judith Anthony and Sir Michael Bett CBE. He succeeds Lynn Mathieson, Global Marketing Director of Reed Exhibitions, who has given the board four years’ service, the maximum permitted for an Ordnance Survey Non-Executive Director.

Mr Sommers is married with two children and lives in Surrey.
