The OS MasterMap Imagery Layer is a maintained dataset of high-quality aerial photography and provides a detailed aerial map of Great Britain – almost as good as actually being there.
Accurate and high-quality aerial imagery adds a compelling visual dimension to a varied range of applications, including land registration, forest management, planning, event management and major incident response. In addition to many local-authority, housing-association and utility customers, the Imagery Layer is relied on by several key government departments, including the Forestry Commission, Registers of Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage.
The Imagery Layer offers seamless coverage of Great Britain. The high‑resolution imagery is colour balanced and fully orthorectified, meaning that it accurately reflects the position of features at ground level without distortion. This also ensures alignment with all the other layers in the OS MasterMap family.

Demonstrating our commitment to maintenance of the OS MasterMap Imagery Layer, Ordnance Survey is pleased to announce that all of our 2007 imagery has been processed and is now available to customers. Despite generally poor flying conditions during 2007, we were able to produce around 38,000km of new and updated imagery thus ensuring we maintain our position as the market leader for nationwide image coverage and currency.
Since the start of this year's flying season, we have been working hard to ensure that our imagery is available to customers within 6 months of capture. As a result, over 3504km of imagery captured in 2008 has already been processed and made available to customers. This along with the publication of further 2008 imagery updates can be viewed in the currency maps that we publish at the beginning of every month on our coverage page.
