Our corporate brand values

creating the definitive geographic database

Our investment in global positioning systems, aerial photography and new surveying techniques enables us to constantly update, enhance and maintain our database with at least 5 000 changes every day.
This expertise enables us to provide our customers with an accurate, up-to-date and detailed geographic framework covering the whole country.

delivering intelligent geographic data

We are delivering what is the most detailed and sophisticated geographic information resource for any country in the world – OS MasterMap.

OS Mastermap offers a new national standard in digital mapping, which enables different pieces of information to be linked together and exchanged to help cut costs, enhance services and improve decision making in a common framework.

collaborating to provide creative information solutions

We are continually developing new ways to deliver geographic information in response to industry trends and market demand to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers.
As a recognised industry leader, we also play an active role in standards bodies such as the World Wide Web Consortium and the Open Geospatial Consortium. We are also driving the development of the Digital National Framework (DNF) to create an open standards approach to geographic information use.

championing innovation and technology

We work with a wide range of organisations to champion excellence in the use of geographic information and maximise customer choice. Our approach includes research and innovation projects, joint initiatives in both the public and private sector and an international engagement programme to aid the global exchange of ideas, expertise and best practice.
We have an extensive network of partners who use their expertise, skills and knowledge to add values to our data by creating applications and solutions for a wide range of business and consumer markets.

benefiting the nation as a self-funding government department

Independent experts calculate that around 10% of Great Britain’s economic activity is dependent upon our data.
We are financed through data licensing rather than direct funding from the taxpayer and, as a Trading Fund, are responsible for our own finances and business planning.
Through projects, such as our Free Maps for 11-year-olds initiative, we are committed to using our expertise and resources to realise social, environmental and economic benefits for our staff, the local community, the nation and beyond.
