Environmental policy
We are committed to continual improvement and measurement of its environmental performance. Our environmental policy provides the framework against which we will measure our performance and manage our activities. Our aims are to limit the effects of our activities, products and services on the environment to a practicable minimum in accordance with our stated commitment.
As part of our commitment to safeguard the environment, we will:
- Exceed the minimum legislative and regulatory environmental requirements and associated codes of practice.
- Put in place, monitor and meet targets as set out in the Sustainable operations on the Government estate.
- Maximise employee’s contribution to the improvement of our environmental performance.
- Monitor progress and report our environmental performance on a regular basis.
- Integrate environmental management throughout our business activities.
- Integrate environmental criteria into our sustainable procurement process where appropriate, and ensure that all contractors, suppliers and customers are aware of our environmental commitments and support our initiatives.
- Prevent the pollution of air, water, and land, by our emissions and waste disposal.
- Promote sustainable improvements through the efficient use and management of all raw materials and other resources.
We will deliver our policy by:
- Establishing an environmental management system that meets the requirements of ISO 14001, ensuring its continued effectiveness by regular auditing and review.
- A travel plan that encompasses commuting and business travel and investigation into the procurement and use of alternatively fuelled vehicles.
- Reducing, re-using and recycling, and promoting the use of recycled materials. If these are not practicable we will ensure disposal is in an environmentally responsible manner in accordance with our duty of care obligations.
- Reducing where practicable the level of harmful greenhouse gas emissions, in particular carbon dioxide.
- Managing energy and water usage wisely in all the organisation’s operations.
- Ensuring that all on-site subcontractors are aware of and comply with our environmental procedures and obligations under the Environmental Management System.
Ordnance Survey will ensure effective communication of our environment policies to stakeholders.
