Ordnance Survey – Great Britain's national mapping agency
Please provide in an electronic format any information that you hold on the specific geographical locations within the United Kingdom of any unexploded German bombs (UXB), resulting from aerial bombardment during World War II, that are known or reasonably supposed not to have been subsequently removed (or made safe in situ). Please include any notes that you hold on the estimated size, explosive yield and/or ground depth of such unexploded bombs at individual locations.
For the avoidance of doubt, I am seeking geographical information to the highest degree of precision held, i.e. coordinates or spatial data for individual sites where known. However where no better information is held please provide general location details, e.g. with postcode references or landmarks as recorded.
As a matter of practicality, this request excludes any historical maps, records or plans that you may hold that that are available only in paper form. (I would consider any unscanned maps, records or plans prepared prior to 1995 to be historical.) However if you hold any electronic list or inventory of such maps, records or plans, which is not currently available via a public sector website, I would be grateful for a copy of that also.
Thank you for your e-mail dated 27th July 2010. I regret to inform you that Ordnance Survey is unable to help you with your enquiry, as we do not hold the information you have requested. It is possible that the MOD may be able to assist you further, and we suggest you may wish to contact them directly.
