Thank you for your Freedom of Information request dated 29th August 2010. I am pleased to provide the information detailed below, however I must inform you that not all of the information you have requested is held by Ordnance Survey. Where possible we have advised where you may able to obtain the information we do not hold.
1. The dates we have recorded (the date of Rights of Way orders) for receiving changes to definitive maps from xxxxxx County Council and the area you detail are:
* 28th September 1965
* 17th November 1976
* 15th February 2005
* 26th June 2006
* 18th July 2006
2. I regret to inform you that Ordnance Survey does not hold this information. A copy of xxxxxx County Council’s definitive map was held by Ordnance Survey on the understanding that this was the final copy of the definitive map. It was however, brought to our attention by xxxxxx County Council in October 2009, that it was not the definitive map, but a working draft copy.
xxxxxx County Council hold a copy of the definitive map, and we suggest you may like to contact them in relation to this. The definitive map is maintained by the local authority and is the legal record for detailing classification and alignment of the public rights of way record.
3. Changes to definitive maps are supplied to Ordnance Survey from the local authorities definitive map, and received in the form of a Rights of Way Order from the local authority.
Having checked the information we hold, we are able to provide copies of five Rights of Way Orders. These orders contain small sections of mapping to show those Rights of Way to be ‘extinguished’ or ‘created’ and are attached to this e-mail.
4. I regret to inform you that Ordnance Survey does not hold any information in relation to Rights of Way in the form of Rights of Way orders for the locations you detail.
5. Ordnance Surveys Historical Mapping Enquiry service closed on the 31 July 2008. Maps which were held by Ordnance Survey have been distributed between various sites around the country. Customers wishing to obtain information contained in historical mapping free of charge can visit their local library. A small charge may be made for a copy if required. Licensing terms and conditions do apply for mapping which is still in copyright (mapping produced within the last 50 years).
Copyright libraries offer reading and copying facilities for customers willing to visit and carry out their own searches:
