Authorisation to change boundary

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. could you please inform me

1. Who instigated the change of the Northern Boundary of xxxxxx, as shown on the attached xxxxxx Council map?
2. What documents were used to instigate the Change?
3. Why was the Change made?
4. When was the Change carried out?

Thank you for your e-mail dated 16th November 2010. We are pleased to provide you with the some of the information in relation to your request. Please note that Ordnance Survey does not hold all of the information you have requested, and this is detailed where applicable.

1. Who instigated the change of the Northern Boundary of xxxxxx, as shown on the xxxxxx Council map [which was attached to the request]?

Firstly, I must advise you, that Ordnance Survey does not depict legal property boundaries, nor do we attempt to show property ownership on our mapping, neither are we able to make comment on matters of property ownership.  The features shown on Ordnance Survey maps represent the physical features present at the time of survey, which are depicted within the limits of accuracy and portrayal possible at the scale survey.

No one person would have ‘instigated' changes to the northern 'boundary' of xxxxxx. Updates are made to our mapping according to our continuous revision programme. Where there are changes to the ground feature from the previously captured data, this will be updated if it meets the current large scale specification for capture.

2. What documents were used to instigate the change?

No documents were used to instigate any change.  Changes to this area were captured by a mix of ground and aerial survey as part of our revision process. Therefore no documents exist.

3. Why was the Change made?

Since the time the property was added to our data in 2004 and the 2007 data (which remains the same as it is now), there have been some changes to the 'boundary' features.

Ordnance Survey does not hold surveyors notes in relation to surveyed changes, but we would assume that over this period the ‘boundary’ feature has changed and this/these changes have been captured and added to our data.

4. When was the Change carried out?’

Between 2004 and 2007 (current data) there were changes to the northern ‘boundary’. In 2005 our data indicates we captured a feature leading from the right of the xxxxxx ‘boundary’ part way across the plot of xxxxxx towards the road, and in 2007 there is a continuation of this ‘boundary’ dropping south and then west towards and joining the road.

The changes we refer to were all carried out some time between the initial survey of the property in 2004 and 2007, although we cannot be date specific.
