Ordnance Survey – Great Britain's national mapping agency
I am writing to request detail of surveys carried out by your department on behalf of the Registers of Scotland. One of these surveys was requested by the registers of Scotland on 20th April 1989, and I believe another was conducted around May 1990. The surveys were of a small development at xxxxxx.
I am requesting details of all surveys and communications in connection with the land at xxxxxx.
Thank you for your letter dated 16th January 2011. I regret to inform you that Ordnance Survey is unable to help you with your enquiry as we do not hold the information you have requested.
Ordnance Survey does not hold historic mapping of the dates in question, and we do not retain surveyors notes or communications in relation to historic surveys/areas of land. Historic mapping would be the only record of information for a specific area of land for the dates you request, as any information captured by survey (changes or new features) would be reflected in our mapping.
Ordnance Survey closed our historic map archive in July 2008. However if you would like to view historic mapping, you may obtain information contained in historical mapping free of charge at your local library. A small charge may be made for a copy, if required. Licensing terms and conditions do apply for mapping which is still within copyright (mapping produced within the last 50 years).
Copyright libraries and The National Archive offer reading and copying facilities for customers willing to visit and carry out their own searches and I have detailed contact information for The National Archive and copyright libraries below:
