Ordnance Survey – Great Britain's national mapping agency
We are investigating the construction of a structure in xxxxxx in the xxxxxx District and I have been advised to submit an FOI request relating to your function as Place of Deposit.
1. Can you confirm the dates that the area at grid reference xxxxxx xxxxxx was surveyed from 2002 until the present day?
2. Which survey visits resulted in real world or other change, what change resulted and what prompted the survey visits?
3. Specifically we are interested in the properties xxxxxx and xxxxxx, these were 2 small structures which have now become one single structure. I understand that the mapping was changed recently and I wonder if you can say why it was re-surveyed at that point in time and not earlier?’
Thank you for your e-mail dated 17th May 2011, detailing your FOI request. We are pleased to respond to your questions in order below. Please note Ordnance Survey does not hold all of the information you have requested, and this is detailed where applicable.
1. April 2005 from August 2003 aerial photography , October 2008 from June 2008 aerial photography and June 2010 from a site visit (see further information below)
2. There was a real world change in April 2005, this being a new path to the right of where xxxxxx is now situated, taken from aerial photography not a site visit.
There was also a change in June 2010 which is further detailed below, with an explanation as to what prompted this.
3. The last recorded change to this area of mapping was in June 2010 when the single building xxxxxx was added to our large scale data.
The reference within our digital product refers to this change as ‘new’. This reference would indicate the building was classed as ‘demolished/rebuild’.
I regret to advise you that Ordnance Survey does not hold information to confirm why the area in question was surveyed in June 2010 and not earlier. We sometime receive intelligence to advise of new builds which prompt surveyors to survey an area, but as we do not retain this information within our records we cannot be specific as to why this area was re-surveyed at this time - on this occasion.
Rural areas such as the area in question are subject to our cyclic revision programme, which is collected via aerial photography.
You can find more information in relation to this below, which may help you to understand why this area may not have been surveyed earlier.
Please note your enquiry has been processed according to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000. As the requested information has been provided or is not held by Ordnance Survey, we have determined that in all the circumstances of this case the Public interest consideration (section 17 FOIA) is not applicable.
If you are unhappy with our response, you may raise an appeal to our Appeals Officer at:
