OSGM05 geoid and corrector surface

Previously I had requested information on a new geoid model OSGM05 in terms of its cost in development and in terms of access.  However, you indicated to myself and the ICO that OSGM05 would be released for public use by Spring 2011.  As of today’s date I can locate no sign of its imminent delivery. I would therefore appreciate an update on when OSGM05 geoid and corrector surface will become available to UK users?

Thank you for your e-mail dated 27th July 2011. I confirm Ordnance Survey does hold this information you have requested and we detail the following information in response:

We have a likely delay until Autumn 2011 for the release of the new OSGM05 model. This is for two reasons:

1) We are currently undergoing extensive ground checking of the new model to ensure its quality and resourcing this has been a challenge.

2) Ireland has contracted University College London to update their model, so we would look to release both together to maximise uptake and make it easier for vendors to incorporate a combined model.

Please note your enquiry has been processed according to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000. As all the requested information has been provided, we have determined that in all the circumstances of this case the Public interest consideration (section 17 FOIA) is not applicable in this instance.
