Coastal Path Information

Under Freedom of Information: 1. Who is responsible for showing the false [supplied with request] information regarding the Ceredigion Coastal Path on Ordnance Survey maps?

2. Has xxxxxx Council notified the Ordnance Survey by letter, or other document, that this public path on our land exists?

Thank you for your e-mail dated 19th August 2011. Ordnance Survey does hold the information you have requested, and we respond to each of your questions in turn.

1. Firstly, there has been no false information regarding the Ceredigion Coast Path shown on Ordnance Survey mapping.

As we stated in our previous response (FOI11190), the information regarding the Ceredigion Coast Path was provided to Ordnance Survey by xxxxxx Council.

As xxxxxx Council endorse the route, we had no reason to believe the alignment shown on the information supplied to be inaccurate, and we therefore reflected the alignment on our mapping.

2. If you are referring to the Ceredigion Coast Path, Ordnance Survey was notified by xxxxxx Council who sent electronic MapInfo tables to show its alignment. These MapInfo tables clearly show the route of the Ceredigion Coast Path as passing through your property.
If you are referring to footpath 73/63/C then as per our previous response (FOI11190) Ordnance Survey does not show this footpath on our mapping.

Please note, the showing of a public footpath and the showing of a recreational path such as the Ceredigion Coast Path are two separate issues.

Your enquiry has been processed according to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000. As all the requested information has been provided, we have determined that in all the circumstances of this case the Public interest consideration (section 17 FOIA) is not applicable in this instance.

If you are unhappy with our response, you may raise an appeal to our Appeals Officer at:

Please include the reference number below. The Appeals Officer will ensure that the process has been followed correctly, questioning any decisions taken regarding the original response and recommending disclosure of additional information if appropriate.
