Accredited Consultant
These independent technical experts have significant experience in the Geographic Information industry. They offer technical consultancy services, external to their business, relating to our products and services, independently of Ordnance Survey. Accredited Consultants are required to renew their accreditation every year, so you can be sure that their market knowledge and skills are second to none.
Interested in applying?
Accreditation is personal to you – it is not a company accreditation – so it is a certification that brings you individual recognition.
Benefits to you
- Join a peer-group of technical experts.
- Share knowledge and experiences with a peer group that includes our pre- and post-sales consultants.
- Gain public recognition of your personal accreditation, promoted here and via other publicity.
- Enjoy exclusive access to our community's resource centre.
- Take advantage of the right to use the Ordnance Survey Accredited Consultant logo.
- Receive a certificate confirming your Ordnance Survey Accredited Consultant status to display in your office.
The process will take approximately 15 weeks. The closing date for this intake of applicants is 25 March 2013.
A fee of £500 is payable annually. We will waive this for the first year of your accreditation. This annual fee enables us to organise special events each year and fund continued investment in exclusive online resources for our community.
Accreditation Consultant Programme FAQ
Step 1 – Making your application
Please email your Curriculum Vitae with a covering letter that explains how you meet our criteria as set out in the Accredited Consultant Profile.
You must also download, complete, save and attach the document below to the same email as your letter and CV:
Accredited Consultants Supplementary Information
By completing it, you provide us with references, provide us with diversity monitoring information and accept our Terms and Conditions, as part of which you also agree to adhere to our Code of Practice.
Accredited Consultant Programme Terms and Conditions
Accreditation Code of Practice
Please send all completed documentation to accreditation.admin@ordnancesurvey.co.uk
We anticipate that this intake for the programme will result in the accreditation of 15 Consultants, with a further intake planned for later in the year
If you have not been selected for the current intake, we will advise you to this effect and retain your application documents only for a maximum of three months. You may apply again when the programme is next opened to receive applications. The schedule for the next intake will be published here in due course.
Should a candidate drop out of the programme at an early stage, we will maintain a reserve list of Accredited Consultant applicants.
Step 2 – Online evaluation
There are general concepts that we would expect an experienced GI professional to know. In order to verify your knowledge of these concepts, we will send you a link to a time-limited online examination. Specific preparation is thus not required. If you are successful in the examination, you will progress to Step 3.
Step 3 – Review learning resources
As part of the application process we would like applicants to have an understanding of our customers, products and licensing. We will therefore provide access to online training materials for you to review, You will not be tested on this; it is simply to consolidate your knowledge.
Step 4 – Interview
We would like to meet applicants in order to discuss their Accredited Consultant application. You will be invited to an interview so that you also have the opportunity to meet us. Following your interview, the panel will decide whether you have met our requirements for accreditation, subject to satisfactory references being received shortly after the interview.
Interviews take place at our head office in Southampton. If you have special requirements that would prevent you from getting to our head office, please email the programme administrator. We will do our best to make special arrangements for the interview. Please note that we are unable to reimburse travel or other expenses.
In the event that accreditation cannot be awarded after the interview or after the references have been obtained, we will offer constructive comments on areas for improvement but cannot enter into further discussion or provide any further explanation.
Upon accreditation
We will add a short biography about you to our Accredited Consultants Directory. This will comprise your name, business contact details and a short, concise statement of your areas of specialisation that you have agreed with us. This will enable potential clients to contact you directly.
During your period of accreditation
We hope that you will make full use of the benefits of the programme.
Please note that, since the accreditation is awarded to you, it is not transferable. Larger businesses that employ more than one accredited consultant must avoid implying that the wider organisation is an accredited consultancy by, for example, using the logo on general company stationery used by other employees. You are, however, welcome to use it on your business card.
We encourage you to maintain a Record of Accreditation. Within the last two months of the accreditation period we will ask to review your Record of Accreditation and your engagement with the community. The purpose of the review will be to ensure that the award of accreditation can be justified for another period. Renewal will be subject to the payment of the annual fee.
In terms of representing your accreditation to prospective clients, you must make clear that you are not one of our employees, contractors or agents. If you are engaged by a client to deliver your services, this is a contract between you and your client, in which Ordnance Survey have no part.
Good luck with your application.
