Career opportunities in Products

Products Group is responsible for designing and building products that are easy to use, and for appropriate licences and delivery systems that enable customers to access our products when, where and how they need them.

We achieve this by developing new value propositions and new concepts for our data and our delivery methods. We ensure our existing products ‘do what they say on the tin’ and, when necessary, withdraw tired products. We ensure our data products are supplied to our customers in the most efficient and cost-effective ways.

Our Cartography team is responsible for the development, manipulation and enhancement of our core data to produce our much-loved paper maps and related small-scale data products.

Our technical teams ensure we continue to have a robust technical way to develop, enhance and manage our data, products and services. Our Research team helps us to stay at the forefront of how we can collect data, develop our products and deliver them to our customers.

Propositions Portfolio Manager

Using their knowledge of the commercial environment and markets in which we operate, our propositions portfolio managers work with our sales teams to identify, create and develop new propositions. Their knowledge of the product supply chain, pricing and licensing plus their project management skills enable them to present product propositions effectively to influence our business and product development strategies. They have a proven track record of delivery, project management skills, plus knowledge of strategic marketing and product marketing theory and practice.

Research Scientist

Our team of research scientists are curious. They investigate innovative ways to develop and exploit technology and methods to inform and influence new data-capture techniques, product developments, and ways of delivering our data products to help maintain our status as an industry leader.

Technical Product Manager

Our technical product managers use their GIS skills and knowledge of the technical aspects of our products to provide us with expert advice on product creation, integration, and maintenance. As well as their expert technical knowledge of our products, they have great communication, collaboration, influencing and negotiating skills.

Product Manager/Senior Product Manager

Working to a senior product manager, our product managers use their knowledge of our products and our markets to develop and manage their product portfolios, maximising customer satisfaction and so product profitability. They contribute to our product strategy, and liaise with other areas of our business to ensure that products are achieving expected service and revenue targets. They have a good track record of delivery and knowledge of project management principles. Some of them have a marketing or business qualification.

Our senior product managers take overall responsibility for the development and management of their product portfolio and for their team members.

Cartographer

Our cartographers manipulate and enhance the core data provided by DC&M to produce our paper maps and small-scale data products. They use their skills in software packages such as Lites, Image Mapper, Microstation®ArcGIS® Photoshop® and Illustrator to create and support derived mapping products via desktop PCs. Our cartographers are great team players, whilst individually they each juggle their work demands to ensure they always deliver on time and to the required specification.

Licensing Specialist/Developer

Using their extensive knowledge of our intellectual property, customer and partner requirements, our licence developers develop commercially sound proposals for licensing terms and conditions that balance the needs of our customers with the needs of our business. Our licensing specialists provide specialist licensing advice to customer-facing team members in Sales and our Customer Service Centre, as well as our product managers, so that commercial contracts that align to our pricing and licensing policy and framework.

Team members are all good problem solvers and communicators; some have highly developed influencing skills.
