Providing ‘on-the-go’ news for City commuters
Local government: Crime prevention
emapsite’s input helped us navigate a hugely complex planning process and dramatically reduced the man hours we had to put in to source the data we needed. We have also avoided having to spend precious time researching copyright and licensing issues around data. emapsite simplifies the whole licensing process and makes it a lot quicker. In short, emapsite have provided us with consultancy, advice and underlying data. They are a critical partner to the project.Brian James, Chief Operating Officer, Renew

Deciding the optimal position of the Renew ‘pods’, each about the size of a household wheelie-bin, is critical. As well as gaining formal planning permission, the project team need to ensure there is sufficient passing footfall and message exposure to engage investors and advertising partners. There also has to be scope for providing different, relevant content from one location to another.
Renew has turned to Ordnance Survey Premier Partner emapsite, whose consultants licensed the most appropriate geographic data and built a dedicated web portal outlining prospective sites for easy analysis. The data includes OS MasterMap®, which is detailed enough to show the outlines of buildings and street corners and is ideal for the planning process.
Renew also uses emapsite’s online Plans Ahead and Contractor Link solutions. These enable the team to share mapping and generate the required site location and block plans at specific scales for multiple planning applications. As emapsite has integrated the Public Sector Mapping Agreement sub-contractor terms into Contractor Link, all project partners have fast, easy access to data and licensing.
- City workers and commuters in the financial heart of London have begun accessing relevant news content on the street.
- In the event of a major transport disruption or civil emergency, live updates can be posted direct across the network, so maximising public awareness.
- Investors and advertisers can rely on accurate marketing data informed by geographic analysis of the pod locations.
- Plans are under way to roll out enhanced wireless connectivity throughout the network, providing additional interactive capabilities between the pods and the mobile devices of passers-by.
