Free maps for 11-year-olds
The free maps scheme has now closed. 2010 was the last year of the scheme.
A report assessing the impact of the entire Free Maps scheme will be made available on this page once all research is complete. In the meantime an overview of the findings for the scheme years 2000 (trial year) to 2006 (5th year) can be accessed here;

Free maps teaching guide and skills checklist
These resources are designed as an aid for teachers working with Primary/Year 7 pupils. They provide a variety of hints and tips for developing map work skills.
The printable check list is a tool to establish the current level of mapping knowledge of your pupils which you could use again after finishing your map work lessons to evaluate pupil progress.

Fantasy expedition
An ideal resource for use with free Explorer maps. Two expeditions have been created to enable you to address some of the requirements in the curriculum in a fun and interesting way. Aimed at Key Stage 3, it encourages individuals to work in groups. Covering the National Curriculum PoS; Geographical enquiry skills and Knowledge and Understanding.
