GPS (Global Positioning System) is a satellite-based positioning and navigation system that relies on 24 satellites that orbit the earth twice per day. Ranges between a GPS receiver and the satellites are measured. The position of each satellite is known and if enough satellites are measured to, a position for the receiver can be computed.
