Full national grid coordinates

<<< previous | next >>>

If you are working with coordinates in mathematical formulae, you will need to use full easting and northing coordinates. These are given in metres with respect to the false origin. Eastings can be up to 700000 and northings up to 1300000. In precise positioning, these full coordinates are sometimes stated to a precision of 0.001 or even 0.0001 metres.

The diagram illustrates a simple example in which the full National Grid coordinates of a point P in greater London, to a precision of one metre, are 538 852 east and 177 345 north.
