Displaying Ordnance Survey Mapping on the Internet
Customers who wish to include Ordnance Survey mapping on a website can do so under a variety of licences. Brief guidance is given here on the main licences that might apply to help you decide which is right for you. If you are unsure which licence applies you should contact your account manager (if you have one) or our Customer Service Centre. We strongly advise that you seek advice from us before you proceed with your web site development.
Licences permiting internet use
OS OpenData Licence
Ordnance Survey makes a number of raster and vector datasets available free of charge under the terms of an OS OpenData Licence. The OS OpenData Licence allows you to display the data on the internet, as well as many other uses.
OS OpenSpace Developer Agreement
The OS OpenSpace is free of charge and enables web applications to be built using a selection of datasets that are hosted by Ordnance Survey. It is available for use by anyone, including commerical organisations.
Paper Map Copying Licence
Should you wish to display mapping on the internet for the purpose of demonstrating the location of or providing directions to your premises, static assets owned by you, your area of operation and/or a bespoke event organised by you, then you can do so under the terms of our Paper Map Copying Licence.
Framework Contract (Direct)
If you purchase and licence data with us directly, limited external use rights allowing you to display mapping on the internet are provided as part of your Licensed Use.
Consumer Applications and Websites Contract
If you wish to create a hosted web application aimed at consumers, you will require our Consumer Applications and Websites Contract under our Framework Contract (Partner).
Viewing Tracking and Scheduling Contract
If you are a third party distributor and wish to display Ordnance Survey mapping on the internet to enable your customers to locate and specify the data they wish to license; or you wish to make Licensed Data available as part of a hosted service or software package to be used for the purposes of tracking and/or scheduling, you will require a Viewing Tracking and Scheduling Contract under our Framework Contract (Partners).
