Daytrippers and holidaymakers can now discover even more of the delights of the Peak District thanks to a new Touring map from Ordnance Survey.

Touring maps are designed to be clear and easy to read – ideal for those who are not regular map users.

The new Peak District and Derbyshire map not only includes the Peak District National Park but attractions as far north as Rochdale and as far south as Loughborough. It stretches to Congleton in the west and Mansfield in the east.

The map is published at a scale of 1:100,000 (10 cm to 10 km or 3 inches to 5 miles), big enough to display essential information for tourists from near and far.

It is one of four new titles in the Touring map series designed to build on the recent success of similar style maps of Devon and Cornwall. The other newcomers are Wales, Lake District & Cumbria, and Yorkshire Dales & part of North Yorkshire.

"Although these maps focus very much on National Parks – they are much more than that," explains Steve Erskine, Ordnance Survey's Managing Director of Graphic Brands. "The National Parks are the jewel in the centre of a much larger area shown.

"We have tried not to clutter the maps with information that may not be relevant to holidaymakers. But we've highlighted many features especially to suit tourists and visitors to the area. And by covering so much on one map, we've made it easier for people to tour round and explore, giving, I hope, a timely boost to the tourism industry. We of course urge people to observe all restrictions due to foot and mouth, and to check access arrangements ahead of their visits."

As well as showing motorways, main roads, and much of the tourist information you would expect from Ordnance Survey, the maps pinpoint many minor roads, non-motorway service stations, cycle routes, country pubs and public toilets.

The new Touring maps cost £3.95 each and are available from bookshops, tourist information centres and many other retail outlets.
