Feeling a bit cooped up this Christmas? Then join wise turkeys across the land by planning a great escape with Ordnance Survey.
The national mapping agency is hosting suggestions for the nation's favourite escapes on a free interactive website - www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/greatescape
It's a chance to share ideas for walks, cycle rides, daytrips or longer breaks that can help you work off the Christmas pudding and avoid the endless repeats on TV.
Whatever the chosen escape route, the site can put people on the right track to around 900 Ordnance Survey maps covering every part of the country at a range of scales.
"Our maps have always made great Christmas presents for walkers and outdoor enthusiasts," says Ordnance Survey's John Richardson. "But they are also ideal for anybody looking to get out and about this Christmas holiday. This year we thought it would be fun to list some great escapes and invite suggestions for a top ten poll of the people's choices."
With prices between £3.99 and £6.99, Ordnance Survey maps are excellent value Christmas presents. Orange-covered Explorer maps show the countryside in great detail for keen outdoor types. Motorists can turn to the OS Travel Map series which includes the light blue Tour maps featuring easy-to-read mapping and improved tourist information. And of course there are the pink-covered OS Landranger maps for those wanting a more general passport to town and country.
