Ordnance Survey, the national mapping agency, is hosting a series of one day seminars across Great Britain to help local authorities and the emergency services get the most out of its flagship product, OS MasterMap.
The seminars will cover everything from the latest developments at Ordnance Survey to highlighting the new and innovative ways OS MasterMap is being used. The first few ‘Getting started with OS MasterMap’ seminars have already been hosted and have proved to be a great success, attracting over 120 visitors.
Tracy Lister of Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council comments: "The OS MasterMap seminar went back to basics to show how we could use the intelligent data which is already available to add value to other parts of our business".
Activities during the seminar include talks about the future of OS MasterMap and how it can be used throughout local government, from policy making to service route planning. Special breakout sessions allow attendees the chance to share ideas and talk about their own experiences.
Peter ter Haar, Ordnance Survey’s Director of Products, says, "We’re running this course of seminars across the country because we want to highlight the sheer diversity of applications OS MasterMap has. We often find that an organisation licenses OS MasterMap data for one purpose but soon realises that it can be used in ways they didn’t originally imagine. These seminars are about bringing that versatility into the spotlight."
Brian Garner of Liverpool Direct Limited, supporting Liverpool City Council, who attended a seminar in Chester, says, "The seminar reinforced some ideas which I already had and also helped generate several new ones as well as where OS MasterMap can be utilised across the council."
Every local government organisation that licenses OS MasterMap can expect an invite to one of the following seminars:
September
Pershore
Southampton
Exeter
Nottingham or Derby
October

Milton Keynes
King’s Lynn
Preston
Leeds
