Ordnance Survey offers weatherproof passport to town and country this Christmas

Ordnance Survey is offering a passport to town and country – no matter how bad the weather this festive season – with a weatherproof series of its most distinctive series of maps.

One of Britain’s best-loved leisure companions, the OS Landranger Map, is the ideal tool for planning trips out. And, just in time for Christmas, Ordnance Survey is publishing 25 highly durable versions of the series’ most popular titles.

Called OS Landranger Map – Active, the new series keeps the familiar scale of 1:50,000 (1¼ inches to 1 mile or 2 cm to 1 km). And each map covers an area of 40 km by 40 km – allowing visitors to explore a whole area in and around their base.

Thanks to an enhanced finishing process, the alternative maps have a lightweight protective plastic coating that can be written on to highlight favourite routes. The tougher, more versatile versions offer more choice for active map users – or those planning trips regardless of the weather.

“These maps are durable, weatherproof versions of an already much-loved series,” says Ordnance Survey’s Deborah Cable. “If there is one thing we just cannot predict, it’s the great British weather. So, when it’s safe to venture out, we’ve come up with a way for people to not only plan trips but to keep their map with them outdoors – without fear of it getting ruined by rain, sleet or even snow.

“They make the perfect stocking-filler for anyone who likes to take trips or holidays in Britain. Major and primary roads are highlighted – as well as symbols to help people get the most out of the area they’re travelling around.”

In addition to roads, the maps feature major tourist attractions, such as theme parks and smaller holiday parks and villages, gardens open to the public, walks and trails, nature reserves, visitor centres and sports stadiums open for people to tour.
