Ordnance Survey has teamed up with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to get Britain walking.
Great Britain’s national mapping agency is sponsoring the heart charity’s walks and hikes series from September 2008 until December 2009, and will help participants brush up on their navigational skills to enable them to make the most of the great outdoors.
Throughout the year Ordnance Survey staff will be supporting the BHF via a range of fund-raising activities, including cycling in the BHF’s London to Brighton Bike Ride and taking part in a selection of the charity’s walks all over the country.
Ordnance Survey’s Victoria Barrett says: “We are really delighted to be teaming up with the BHF. This really is the perfect partnership. One of our aims, as Britain’s national mapping agency, is to encourage the nation to get into the great outdoors and explore the diverse and beautiful landscape this country has to offer.
“Our range of OS Explorer Maps and OS Landranger Maps can help put you on the right track, allowing you to make the most of the landscape whilst getting some exercise – which is a great way to keep your heart healthy. We hope that many people will take up the challenge and join in the events.”
Douglas Rouse, Head of Corporate Partnerships at the British Heart Foundation, says: “The BHF is absolutely delighted that Ordnance Survey has chosen to sponsor our well-established series of walks and hikes. We are looking forward to working together to encourage more people to enjoy the great outdoors – while raising money to beat heart disease, which remains the UK’s biggest killer.”
The BHF will now be able to tap into Ordnance Survey’s mapping expertise to help enhance their events to make them even more enjoyable for the thousands of people who take part every year.
