Representatives from Ordnance Survey, including Director General and Chief Executive Vanessa Lawrence CB, presented a cheque for £6,585.24 to the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
Staff at Ordnance Survey had selected the organisation as the corporate charity for 2008–09 and supported it through fundraising events and activities, donating a total of £13,585.24 over the year.
Vanessa said: "I’m delighted to be able to present this cheque to the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance on behalf of the staff at Ordnance Survey. Our staff are always committed to the corporate charity and this year the range of activities included a soup kitchen run by managers in full chef outfits, a book sale as well as the sale of travel mugs. One person raised over £500 in a cycle ride and others have undertaken cake sales and dress‑down days.”
Launched in October 2005 as a charity, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance became fully operational in July 2007. The air ambulance relies solely on voluntary donations, needing almost £3,000 each day to keep it operational.
Receiving the donation, Project Support Officer Lynne Dadley said: “Everyone associated with the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance is delighted by this fantastic donation and we would like to thank all the staff at Ordnance Survey. Without the support of organisations like Ordnance Survey we wouldn’t be able to keep flying."
