Opportunity to explore Explorers Day Nursery

A brand-new, purpose-built day nursery has opened for business at Adanac Drive in Southampton. Built by Ordnance Survey to provide childcare for staff, the nursery is being run by local childcare expert Clive Tongue and is extending a welcome to local children.

The nursery which has capacity for 45 children has spaces at all ages and offers high-quality childcare, freshly-cooked food and an outstanding outdoor play area and tree house.

Clive Tongue commented: “Explorers is a lovely nursery and the children and staff are delighted with the facilities on offer. Ordnance Survey has built a superb nursery facility and we are delighted to be running it and are looking forward to welcoming some new children."

The nursery was formally opened on 27 January 2011 by Jan Hutchinson, Director of HR and Corporate Services at Ordnance Survey at a launch event attended by the Sheriff of Southampton, Councillor Terry Matthews.

Jan Hutchinson said: “I am delighted to have been invited to open Explorers Day Nursery. The facilities are outstanding and the children have settled in really well. I am confident that the management and staff will continue to provide a high-quality childcare provision providing great benefit to Ordnance Survey staff and other parents.”

Part of the family of independent nurseries known locally as Little Shipmates, the group has branches in Hythe, Fareham and central Southampton.

The new nursery is located close to the M271 in Nursling making it ideal for parents commuting into Southampton. The facilities include a large outdoor play area and undercover area allowing children to play outside in all weathers. The nursery has its own chef who prepares healthy and nutritious meals and snacks for the children.
