Ordnance Survey rises to the challenge for Red and White Appeal

Ordnance Survey are pleased to announce that they have raised £1,500 for Southampton-based charity The Red and White Appeal. This means the charity will be able to purchase the first of six infusion pumps which Ordnance Survey hopes to provide for Southampton General Hospital over the coming year.

1 in 25 of the population will develop leukaemia, myeloma or lymphoma in their lifetime and this donation will be used to help those affected by various blood disorders. Each vitally important infusion pump Ordnance Survey buys will deliver the vital fluids in a precise and controlled manner that only this equipment can provide. 

On 1 April 2012, The Red and White Appeal became Ordnance Survey’s chosen corporate charity for a year. The charity, whose name highlights the importance of both red and white blood cells for the haematology patients it cares for, is aiming to raise £1.76m to build a dedicated unit to receive day case or outpatient care at Southampton General Hospital. 

Fundraising began with a staff quiz which raised £500 towards the first pump. Julie Sellers, Fundraising Co-ordinator at Ordnance Survey said: 

“This is a very good effort from our team and we hope to raise the money needed to supply the next batch of vitally important equipment. I have every faith our staff can rise to the challenge.” 

Ordnance Survey aim to raise the money for six infusion machines, at a cost of £1,500 each, a target they are well on their way to achieving.
