Land-Line® Residual Rights

As of 1 October 2008, both Land-Line and Land-Line.Plus® ceased to be available from Ordnance Survey. Land-Line customers and partners were provided with official Notice of Withdrawal on 1 June 2007. This followed a formal public consultation in 2005.

Post withdrawal, Land-Line customers are able to hold and use for their ongoing day to day business use (that is their Standard Licensed Use) Land-Line and Land-Line.Plus under a number of different licences. As of 1 April 2009, the licence structure for such use is as follows:

OS MasterMap® Topography Layer

If a customer has a licence for OS MasterMap Topography Layer, they are entitled to use Land-Line or Land-Line.Plus data (and information overlaid on this data) for no additional charge provided that the coverage area of the Land-Line or Land-Line.Plus data is the same or less than the coverage area of the customer’s OS MasterMap Topography layer holdings. There is no need to take out a separate licence. Full details are available in our OS MasterMap Topography Layer Licence. (Hyperlink)

If a customer wishes to use its Land-Line or Land-Line.Plus holdings (and information overlaid on this data) which exceeds the coverage area of their OS MasterMap Toporgaphy Layer holdings, they will need to pay for this additional coverage area and enter into a separate Residual Rights Licence.  A customer is only able to do this if they were previously licensed to use Land-Line or Land-Line.Plus prior to 1 October 2008. Full details are available in our Land-Line Residual Rights Licence. Please contact our Customer Service Centre for more details.

Land-Line Residual Rights

If a customer does not have a licence for OS MasterMap Topography Layer, they are entitled to use their Land-Line or Land-Line Plus holdings under a Residual Rights Licence.  As above, a customer is only able to do this if they were previously licensed to use Land-Line or Land-Line.Plus prior to 1 October 2008. The customer will need to pay for this use.

The price for the use of Land-Line or Land-Line.Plus is £1.79 (plus VAT) per tile. A customer will only be able to increase or reduce its holdings under a Land-Line Residual Rights Licence at the renewal date (which will be April each year). We will not supply, maintain or update any Land-Line or Land-Line.Plus data.

Land-Line Archive Licence

If a customer no longer wishes to use their Land-Line or Land-Line.Plus holdings for their ongoing day to day business use (that is their Standard Licensed Use) but wants to retain an electronic copy of their holdings, they are entitled to do so under the terms of the Land-Line Archive Licence.  They can retain their holdings in this way for the sole purpose of responding to a complaint or challenge from a third party that relates directly to their earlier use of their holdings. A customer is only able to do this if they were previously licensed to use Land-Line or Land-Line.Plus prior to 1 October 2008. Due to the limited use allowed under this licence, it is free of charge.
