Pictometry International Corp, the world’s largest digital, oblique imagery company, has patented a unique system for capturing and viewing high resolution images from different viewpoints. Ordnance Survey has teamed up with BLOM Aerofilms Limited to become authorised resellers of Blom Pictometry® to provide oblique imagery of Great Britain.

Combined oblique and vertical view imagery is a unique information source relatively new to Great Britain.  Today, Ordnance Survey can offer access to an instantly available, ‘off-the-shelf’ library of high-resolution oblique imagery, covering all of Great Britain’s urban areas with a population of greater than 50,000.

Also available is a "bespoke" service - your specific area of interest can be captured on demand.

All licensees of Pictometry Oblique Imagery benefit from access to a 20cm resolution, seamless mosaic of vertical images that aids navigation and directly complements the Pictometry library.

Try a different perspective

  • Oblique imagery supplements the traditional vertical view with images taken at an angle from the four different points of the compass – North, East, South and West – to provide a complete image of all features in the natural and built environment;
  • The imagery can be fully integrated with other geographic and mapping information within a wide range of geographic information systems (GIS) to enable viewing, measurement and remote inspection of locations from multiple vantage points.  For example, using Pictometry, you can rapidly assess the size, shape, design, construction and surrounding environment of any building from upwards of twelve different oblique and vertical vantage points;
  • Within the supplied Electronic Field Study software, accurate measurements of height, distance and area may be made from the Pictometry image;
  • Other associated infrastructure and detail, such as trees, street lights and telephone boxes, become much clearer, and access and egress to buildings or land is more easily interpreted.

Overlay your data

Pictometry, with its target of urban areas is complemented by a wide range of Ordnance Survey products, especially  OS MasterMap® Imagery Layer which provides high quality, orthorectified, seamless vertical aerial photography for the whole of Great Britain.

The oblique imagery is captured at a resolution of 10 or 15cm Ground Sample Distance (GSD) dependent upon age, and is geo-referenced to the pixel level, ensuring a good fit with OS MasterMap® Topography Layer.  This interoperability, together with the addition of your data enables powerful and intelligent desktop analysis, saving the costs of site visits.

You can also load your own shapefiles, search by address and annotate the data.
