Geographic Efficiency and Savings Delivery Unit
Ordnance Survey is committed to helping the public sector meet their efficiency agenda targets, using geographic information to underpin policy implementation and local service delivery.
Our Geographic Efficiency & Savings Delivery Unit (GESDU) has been set up in order to uncover and showcase examples where geography has been used to deliver quantifiable improvements in efficiency and real cost savings. In addition, our consultants are available to help public sector organisations replicate these savings even in areas where this technology has yet to be fully embraced.
Ordnance Survey already provides a range of geographic datasets to our public sector customers, under a number of collective purchasing agreements. From 01 st April 2011 a wider portfolio of datasets and services will be available under the Public Sector Mapping Agreement.
Here are some recent examples of how organisations are already using these and additional data sets to deliver efficiency improvements and savings of nearly £10 000 000 in:
- Waste management – rationalising collections and reducing the number of vehicles / collection rounds
- Education - Improving school transportation and contract re-negotiation
- Housing – effective management of houses under multiple occupation
- Environmental Services – savings on grounds maintenance contracts
- Street Scene – avoiding duplication of CCTV coverage by combining public and private security systemsCustomer Contact Centre - online access for fault reporting
- Children's & Young People's Services – SEN transportation improvements
- Police
- The Fire & Rescue Service
