Address and Location Data

What is it?

In addition to the usual information you would expect on a geographic map, address and location data gives you building addresses, adding an extra dimension of knowlegde to specific detail to help with location and address based work.

How can I use it?

You will be able to identify individual locations, postal addresses, points of interest, and addresses to buildings that have planning approval. Our datasets will help you improve your planning process, target your customers more effectively and overall, save you time.

Roads and Logistics Data

What is it?

Roads and logistics datasets give you a detailed view of the transport network across the country, such as OS MasterMap® Integrated Transport Network™ (ITN) Layer shown here.

What can I do with it?

It will help you manage your resources more effectively, identify and analyse where accidents regularly occur or assess if a new store opening would create traffic congestion

What is it?

Land and height datasets will help you identify detailed areas of interest on the ground and give you an aerial view of the terrain.

Backdrop Mapping

What is it?

Available at a range of scales, backdrop mapping is iconic and recognised for its high quality cartography across the world. Easy to use, your information can be overlaid on it, along with pictures and text, to give valuable geographic context.

Backdrop Mapping includes:

  • Raster products (an image in the form of a printed map)
  • Vector products (designed for use in a Geographic Information (GI) system, using layers of information)

What can I do with it?

Backdrop mapping helps you visualize and present information, helping to communicate your messages much more effectively and make quicker decisions.

OS MasterMap

What is it?

OS MasterMap® is a continually maintained geographic database. Its five layers contain over 450 million geographic features found in the real world including individual addresses, buildings and roads. Every one of those has a unique common reference, called TOID®, so you can consistently identify that feature as well as relate your own information to it.

How can I use it?

Loading OS MasterMap into a Geographical Information System (GIS) provides you with a wealth of geographic features including an Address layer, Topography layer and Integrated Transport Network (ITN) layer and the ITN Urban Paths theme. You can also add your own data as a layer, to provide the ideal solution to your geographical challenges.

OS VectorMap

What is it?

OS VectorMap® is "mapping your way" - it is a family of flexible products that give you full control over your mapping. You can customise the look and feel of your map at a range of scales, and add your own information to it. You can create and share different cartographic styles, ensuring a consistent view across your business or project.

How can I use it?

OS VectorMap helps you visualise your own data simply and allows you to share it. It is great for displaying information online, it's also a valuable resource for Asset management, Land planning and for Public consultation documents. Use it when you need to visualise information simply and accurately, it is also a great way to share information.

AddressBase Products

What is it?

AddressBase® is a range of products that have been produced by GeoPlace, a joint venture between Ordnance Survey and the Local Government Group.

The AddressBase products include the best parts of local government’s National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG), Ordnance Survey’s OS MasterMap Address Layer 2 and the Royal Mail Postcode Address File (PAF).

How can I use it?

AddressBase products allow you to link additional information about a property to a single address and also place it on a map.

OS Open Data

What is it?

OS Open Data includes a range of products which can be supplied directly for your own use.

What can I do with it?

OS OpenData lets you create and support innovative, exciting ideas and applications using our mapping. With OS OpenData you can freely access a selection of the most detailed mapping datasets available for Great Britain.
