OSMA Case Studies

We are committed to helping the public sector meet their efficiency agenda targets, using geographical data to underpin policy implementation, support informed decision making and local service delivery.

The One Scotland Mapping Agreement represents an excellent example of cooperation between Scottish Government and Ordnance Survey. It demonstrates how the Scottish public sector, working in partnership, can improve the way that public services are provided to the people of Scotland.

It offers users instant access to a vast digital resource, while new licensing terms around the sharing of derived data mean that users can exchange information with any stakeholders involved in government activity – including the voluntary sector. Coupled with the ability to work seamlessly across central and local government and the health sector in Scotland, the Agreement makes cross-organisational working easier, helping to reduce the duplication of effort and costs, and drive innovation.

However it is used, location-based information can aid policy making, support the delivery of information to citizens, drive down costs and enable the development of e-government services.

Below are references to how public sector organisations in Scotland are making good use of our geographical data.  As the membership expands, we’d like to showcase more examples of our data in action.  If you have an example of efficiencies and improvements you’ve made in your area which you’d like to share with other members, please contact Grant.sinclair@ordnancesurvey.co.uk
