One Scotland Mapping Agreement

What is the agreement about?

The One Scotland Mapping Agreement (or OSMA) represents an excellent example of cooperation between Scottish Government and Ordnance Survey. It demonstrates how the Scottish public sector, working in partnership, can improve the way that public services are provided to the people of Scotland.

The OSMA offers members instant access to a vast digital resource, while new licensing terms around the sharing of derived data mean that users can exchange information with any stakeholders involved in government activity – including the voluntary sector. Coupled with the ability to work seamlessly across central and local government and the health sector in Scotland, the Agreement makes cross-organisational working easier, helping to reduce the duplication of effort and costs, and drive innovation.

However it is used, location-based information can aid policy making, support the delivery of information to citizens, drive down costs and enable the development of e-government services. Please see the section below to learn more about the OSMA and how our members have benefitted from membership and what they have achieved.

OSMA News Updates:

  • April 2013:  Ten year agreement signed to continue delivering the benefits of the OSMA (read the press release)
  • Dec 2012:    OS MasterMap Networks - Water Layer product launched for OSMA members.

What are the benefits of OSMA membership?

  • Membership brings the benefits of high quality, expertly managed and maintained Geographic Information, provided as a range of datasets to your organisation
  • Membership of a common agreement enables the sharing of information between organisations licensed for the same geographic area e.g. Allowing community councils and local public sector bodies to collaborate on flood response plans
  • Access to geographic backgrounds for data supports collaboration and cost saving through visualisation of complex data against a detailled geographic background
  • OSMA membership gives you access to both physical and administrative geography of Scotland – from a strategic overview down to the details of a single building.
