There are three National Mapping Agencies responsible for mapping Britain and Ireland. Although they share the name Ordnance Survey they are, in fact, three separate organisations each responsible to their own governments. Each has their own portfolio of products and services, each produced to their own specifications.

The NMO website has been designed to allow National Mapping Agencies across the world to share information, discuss issues of mutual interest and to catch up on all the latest news. The website includes information about CC:The Exchange Conference being hosted at Ordnance Survey 3 to 6 July 2005. The Exchange is an  interim gathering ahead of the next Cambridge Conference with an emphasis on networking and round-table discussions.

Free maps for 11-year-olds scheme aimed to provide all children, irrespective of home or school circumstances, with a map of their own at the stage in their school career when it was most likely to be of best use. By providing additional maps for teachers at a ratio of 1 for every 25 pupil maps the scheme also aimed to improve school map resources.

Each year of the scheme has seen over 750 000 maps distributed to pupils via their schools. By the end of 2005 this will amount to over 3 million maps.
