ITN data structure

The OS MasterMap product specification defines the following data structure:

Figure 1: OS MasterMap product data structure

Layers

A layer is a set of related OS MasterMap themes. A layer may consist of one or more themes.

Themes

A theme is a logical collection of features grouped according to their classification or relationship with other features. Themes do not form part of the classification of a feature or affect feature life cycle rules; their primary purpose is to facilitate feature identification and use. There are three themes in OS MasterMap® Integrated Transport Network™ Layer (ITN): Road Network, Road Routing Information (RRI) and Urban Paths Network.

Features

Features are digital representations of real-world entities.

Attributes

An attribute is any item of information associated with an OS MasterMap feature. TOIDs and geometry, for example an x,y coordinate pair marking the location of a point feature, are both attributes, as are versionDate, theme and featureCode.

This web page is part of the technical specification for OS MasterMap® Integrated Transport Network™ Layer. For the terms that apply to use of this specification, refer to Purpose of this specification.
