OS OpenSpace Pro case studies
Learn how businesses are leveraging OS OpenSpace Pro's scalable, reliable and cost-effective cloud technology.
Mapyx Limited is a GIS Solutions Company who has adopted the use of the Ordnance Survey OpenSpace Pro solution to provide GB mapping to its numerous outdoor clients. The mapping is integrated into the leading Mapyx Quo digital mapping system providing access to the full suite of OS mapping on a monthly or annual subscription basis. The use of OpenSpace Pro delivers Ordnance Survey mapping at overview, minicsale, 250k, 50k, 25k and 10k scales, providing a comprehensive mapping solution for outdoor use. The system is in use by walkers, hikers, cyclist and many more outdoor pursuit advocates. More information can be found at http://www.mapyx.com/.
Meercat have linked up with Ordnance Survey to be able to track the mobile phones in an organisation. This service has been fully integrated into the Meercat SMS web portal service which is already in use in a number of companies/organisations and in particular the higher education sector with clients such as the universities of Oxford, Manchester, Birmingham, Bradford and many more. It is being used for such things as protecting lone workers, tracking personnel needed for business continuity and most commonly auditing/tracking mobile personnel. The integration with the SMS services allows alerting and control using both email and SMS.
The getamap application from Ordnance Survey Leisure integrates data from Open Space Pro and other sources to allow visitors to view data from Zoom map, 25k and 50k. Getamap is ideal for anyone with in interest in outdoor activities, within the first 6 months since launch just under 500,000 people had used the application for plotting routes, checking the weather and printing maps.
News International Supply Company Limited launched their application Times Walks to help to discover the best of Britain on foot. Time Walks is available to subscribers of TimesOnline, and lists around 248 of the most popular walks across the country, as well as the option to upload your own.
The OpenSpace API is a fundamental part of the Walk4Life website. Using the mapping tools available the user can plot the route of their walks on the scaleable map base with the advantage of seeing rights of way and land contours, this is especially helpful in rural areas. The site then allows the user to track the mileage they have walked over a period of days/weeks/months in a graphical progress chart. The walks plotted drop into a central database which is then searchable by other users of the site. They can also print off the maps to take with them when they walk.
The site has only been live for 14 months but already an impressive 15,000 walks have been submitted by users showing how straightforward the mapping process is. As well as individuals using the site to plot daily walks to work and weekend leisure walks, the site is also used by walking groups to plot weekly health walks and by charities to show the route of sponsored walks.
