Ordnance Survey – Great Britain's national mapping agency
The Local Government GI Committee (LoGIC) – PAI Sub-Group requested assistance in comparing vendor systems and services for migrating customer data in line with positional accuracy improvement (PAI). Ordnance Survey does not accredit software because it is impossible fairly to categorise systems that offer a variety of solutions to many different customers. What is right for one clearly may not be the best way for another.
The LoGIC PAI Sub-Group agreed that a good starting point would be to have the same Ordnance Survey base data with some common customer overlays and this is what is provided here.
Two tiles of Ordnance Survey Land-Line® data and the equivalent area in OS Mastermap®, both pre- and post-PAI, are available for download.
Customer data is made up of Polygon, Linear, Point and Large Polygon data. The quality and manner in which this has been captured varies. Some is snapped to the underlying features, some is not snapped and some is part-snapped. Although it is not a totally comprehensive set of all types of data that customers hold, it covers most of the common options.
At the seminars you will be able to compare vendors’ solutions and be in a position to ask how they arrived at their results. Whilst this is not an alternative to more detailed testing of the options with your own data, it may help create the short list.
Before you can download the data, you must read and agree to be bound by our Terms and Conditions.
