Project TRIPODTRIPOD TRI-Partite multimedia Object Description

1st January 2007 - 31st December 2009

TRIPOD aims to develop a series of techniques which will significantly and rapidly advance both the quality and breadth of search results returned from a collection of image and multimedia content. The project will use a novel multi-disciplinary approach based on the hypothesis that place plays a key role in image retrieval. Another key aspect is the creation of a large and diverse collection of geo-referenced photographs, which will be used for testing. The technology developed in TRIPOD will be relevant to the image library market, cultural heritage groups and users of geographic information science systems.

NERVE - North East Regional Visualisation Environment

Ist January  2006 – 31st December  2007

Research is a partner in the  Nerve project which is a collaborative Research and Development  project, part funded by the DTI under its Technology Programme. There is an increasing need for agencies such as fire, ambulance, police, local authorities and utilities to be able to share and visualise Geographic Information in realtime for both planning and operational purposes. This research will attempt to remove the technical barriers that make this difficult to achieve.  In light of recent National Legislation, such as the Civil Contingency Bill and Traffic Management Act, the benefits of this software will be substantial.
