Service availability

The OS MasterMap service is available at all times. From time to time the service may need to be taken down to implement new releases of the service, or for maintenance reasons. As far as possible we schedule these outages outside of office hours and aim to provide you with at least five working days notice on our website.

Expected response times

Ordnance Survey will endeavour to respond to the following actions within the timescales set out below. We will:

  1. Provide support to you by telephone or email during the hours of 8.30 am to 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday. Outside of these hours an answerphone will be available.
  2. Send an immediate confirmation that your registration form has been sent.
  3. Respond to your completed registration form within three working days.
  4. Set up a credit account and notify you of your account number and password by email within three working days if OS MasterMap is suitable for your needs.
  5. Maintain saved estimates for six months.
  6. Convert an estimate to a contract within one working day.
  7. Dispatch data ordered on media and via the file transfer protocol (FTP) server within four calendar days.

Expected delivery times

Data ordered for collection from the OS MasterMap FTP server will generally be available 4 calendar days from receipt and acknowledgement of a fully completed and accepted order. Any order for data over 400 Mb will be delivered via physical media (DVD or CD) and not via the FTP server due to threshold limits in place on the server. If this situation arises, the user is notified by email.

We will advise the person who placed the order by email when the data is available for collection from our FTP server. Instructions for the collection of the data placed on our FTP server, including the URL address, will be included in the email.

Data ordered for delivery on media (DVD or CD) will generally be dispatched 4 calendar days from receipt and acknowledgement of a fully completed and accepted order. This may be exceeded for large orders, for instance, orders for Great Britain, England, Scotland, or Wales. The data will be dispatched by commercial next-day delivery at no extra charge.

You may ask for alternative delivery arrangements for which an extra charge may be made and any orders requesting delivery outside of the EU may attract a delivery surcharge. Please contact us (see link below) to discuss your requirements.

Unless we agree differently in writing, the dates we provide for delivering the goods or services will be approximate only, so the time of delivery will not form part of the contract. However, we will do all that we reasonably can to meet delivery dates and avoid unnecessary delay. If you do not take delivery of the goods or services when they are due, or fail to provide any information we need to deliver the goods on the due date, we may give you written notice and store or arrange for storage of the goods. You will then be responsible for the goods and must pay us all reasonable costs and related expenses, including storage and insurance charges (if any).
