OS MasterMap® ITN Layer: Additional ITN attribution

Ordnance Survey visited in excess of 110,000 bridges across England, Scotland and Wales to add to the comprehensive HGV information already in the Integrated Transport Network Layer. The attributions which, when combined with the height restrictions that are currently in the product, allow large vehicles, such as heavy goods vehicles and emergency services vehicles, to plan a route avoiding low and narrow bridges and those historic bridges that are not used to such demands.

FAQs

1) What is the product?

It consists of two attributes - weight restrictions and width restrictions. Together with height restrictions and severe turns, which are already available in the Road Routing Information (RRI) theme it makes a comprehensive dataset. It can be used by customers with an interest in routing for navigation, fleet-management, tracking, scheduling, consumer-web and location-based services.

2) Is the data in the current RRI theme?

No; although weights and widths are part of the RRI theme, there are no immediate plans to integrate it into the ITN Layer, therefore they will be available as a separate CD.

3) Can anyone order it?

Any customer who has a contract for the ITN Layer, including RRI, can have it.

4) How can it be ordered?

Existing customers can order it by emailing digitalsalesenquiries@ordnancesurvey.co.uk, stating a customer contract number and delivery address.

New customers should contact customerservices@ordnancesurvey.co.uk or call 08456 05 05 05.

5) What is the price?

There is no charge as the data is available as part of the RRI theme.

6) How is it licensed?

As long as a customer is licensed for RRI they can take the product.

7) How is it updated?

The HGV attributes are maintained as a priority attribute and fall in line with the normal 6 months from capture policy that Ordnance Survey has for road information.  We only foresee a maximum of 5-10 bridges that will have a change in restriction in any 12 month period. The volume of change will determine how we release this information prior to migration from CSV into the standard ITN Layer RRI GML.

8) What format is it available in?

It is available as a CSV (Comma Separated Value) file on a CD. The attributes are delivered in a file cross-referenced to the relevant road link, which itself is identified with a unique identifier (TOID® ), designed for seamless data integration. Each record contains the restriction information and a pair of x/y coordinates. This allows customers to load the information easily into a GIS package.
