Data source |
OS Street View is generated from a point and line (or vector) dataset nominally created at 1:10 000 scale, and this was first produced in November 2002. The OS Street View product has no paper published map origins. The product is produced from an automated generalisation process using Ordnance Survey large‑scale datasets, which the production area then edit and edge-match the resulting data. A further automated process is applied that generates the finished product in a range of transfer formats. |

Colour is used for line and polygons to help with the cartographic interpretation of features with:
The product is not available in black and white but a high-quality alternative to black and white raster data is to use a geographical information system to convert the colour data to a greyscale format. |

If you haven't downloaded or used sample data before, however, we recommend that you read our guidance notes.
To locate OS Street View data tiles in their correct geographical position in a GIS they need to be 'georeferenced'.
