Cost of rebranding

Request for information – FOI14527

Thank you for your email of February 2015, requesting the following information:

“Can you please provide details of the costs of the rebranding programme launched this morning?

Please can you include details of any breakdowns of the costs such as design agency, regenerating stationary, time and effort involved in updating online presence, etc.”

I confirm that Ordnance Survey does not hold information on internal staff time costs of the rebranding programme.

I confirm that Ordnance Survey does hold the information you have requested relating to external costs of the rebranding programme. These costs amount to £364,317. This comprises:

£199,317 of expenditure on research, design and legal costs associated with the new visual and verbal identity; and

£165,000 of expenditure on replacing existing collateral and assets. This includes signage, business cards, stationery, plane decals, stickers etc.

Note that in addition to the above costs there will be some cost associated with the refresh and replacement of point of sale material in key retail accounts and the inclusion of the new visual identity into the paper map range, which has not yet been incurred. These costs will be incurred on a phased basis over the next 12 months and will be kept to a minimum through careful stock management. This expenditure would be incurred in the ordinary course of business in any event regardless of the rebranding.
