FOI16655– Request for information
Thank you for your email of 4 March 16, requesting the following information from Ordnance Survey in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000:
I would like to make a Freedom of Information request for the following:
A list of all the locations of the Viewpoint symbols on OS Explorer 25,000 maps that cover England and Wales. This could be an OS grid reference or other geographic latitude and longitude.
I can confirm that Ordnance Survey is unable to help you with your enquiry as we do not hold a list of co-ordinates for all Viewpoints on 1:25k mapping.
However, under our duty to provide advice and assistance as stipulated in Section 16 of the FOIA, we can provide the following web link to OS OpenData which may assist you in this matter. www.os.uk/innovate/innovate-with-open-data.html
The Strategi vector product, which you can download from here, includes 728 viewpoints. This dataset is free-of-charge and includes most viewpoints and their co-ordinates.
