Request for information - FOI17782
Thank you for your email of 13 July 2017, requesting information from Ordnance Survey in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000:
I am requesting under the Freedom of Information Act to receive a copy of any internal report, inquiry or briefing circulated to Senior Civil Service members (SCS Pay Bands 1, 2 or 3) or ministers at your organisation during 2016 or 2017 to date containing the words ‘secret’, ‘classified’, ‘confidential’ or ‘restricted’. Any such documents should be considered within the scope of this request whether the above words are in cover pages, the body of the text or watermarked on the document. I remind you that designating reports by such terms carries no legal force and does not confer automatic exemption from the act. I trust that it will be a quick and simple matter to search for these words and should be easily achievable within cost limits stipulated by the act.
I confirm that Ordnance Survey does not hold the information you have requested. However, under the duty to provide information and assistance in accordance with section 16 of FOIA, we can provide the following information which may assist you in this matter. Ordnance Survey became a Government-owned Company as of 1 April 2015; as such, Ordnance Survey staff are not civil servants.
Your enquiry has been processed according to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000. If you are unhappy with our response, you may request an internal review with our FOI Internal Review Officer, by contacting them as follows:
FOI Internal Review Officer
Customer Service Centre
Please include the reference number above. You may request an internal review where you believe Ordnance Survey has:
- Failed to respond to your request within the time limits (normally 20 working days)
- Failed to tell you whether or not we hold the information
- Failed to provide the information you have requested
- Failed to explain the reasons for refusing a request
- Failed to correctly apply an exemption or exception
The FOI Internal Review Officer will not have been involved in the original decision. They will conduct an independent internal review and will inform you of the outcome of the review normally within 20 working days, but exceptionally within 40 working days, in line with the Information Commissioner’s guidance.
The FOI Internal Review Officer will either: uphold the original decision, provide an additional explanation of the exemption/s applied or release further information, if it is considered appropriate to do so.
