Between 1 April 2016 and 31 March 2018, Great Britain’s mapping agency held more than 130 fundraising events to raise vital funds for the mental health charity.

From volunteering at Wellbeing Centres to cake sales, OS’s affiliation with Solent Mind helped raise awareness as well as funds. Their Charity Ball raised almost £5,000, aided by keynote speaker Bryony Gordon, Telegraph Columnist, author and mental health advocate.

OS Business Centre Manager and fundraising lead Teena Munden reflected that Bryony “was incredibly honest and brave to share her personal struggle with mental health. It was so refreshing to hear someone speak publicly about their own experience and, as a result, further highlight how much mental illness is not always visible. Her determination to smash the stigma was contagious, and she spurred us all on!”.

A lot of the money raised was through the 11 OS clubs and societies. The OS running club truly excelled when they took part in R.E.D January, a fundraising initiative to Run Every Day. Club member Julie Lloyd said:

“So many people are affected by mental health and we know what a lifeline Solent Mind can be. We gathered a team of over 20 runners and walkers, including two OS directors, to take part in R.E.D January. The camaraderie and unwavering support was so inspiring, and taking part was immensely beneficial to both our mental and physical wellbeing. We beat our initial £500 target in the first week and reached a grand total of £2646.46 by the end of the month. We covered 1,742 miles and spent 334 hours exercising!”.

Solent Mind’s CEO Kevin Gardner stated: “I am truly grateful to our partners at Ordnance Survey for their wonderful support of Solent Mind. Their achievements in raising funds and awareness help support our aim that the 1 in 4 people, who experience issues with their mental health, receive the support they need and the respect they deserve.”

Nigel Clifford affirmed that, “Solent Mind means a lot to all of us at OS and I am astounded by how much we exceeded our original £20,000 goal. Solent Mind provides valuable and essential services, and I am personally and professionally proud to have been a part of the fundraising efforts”.
